Spectra Cine Inc. is Hollywood's leading manufacturer of light
measuring devices. Based on their patented Incident Hemisphere
principal, practically all movies were made using their lightmeters
until mid 60s, when their patent expired. Soon Japanese and German
products, using the same principle pioneered by Spectra, appeared
on the market. Nevertheless, there are over 100,000 Spectra meters
in use today.
Professional
IV-A Lightmeter
The
Spectra Cine Professional IV-A is an advanced digital exposure
meter. Compact and easy to use, it is the most comprehensive,
and reliable light meter for motion picture and video lighting.
It can measure f/stop from f/0.35 to f/128, photographic
luminance from near total darkness, from 0.1 to full 70,000
foot-candles and 1 to 100,000 lux. In contrast ratio measurement
mode, the ratio of two readings from 1:1 to 999:1 can be
instantly calculated and displayed thereby simplifying the
set up of any lighting situation, and in f/stop mode the
difference in f/stop between a new reading and the last
memorized measurement is displayed in precise 1/10-stop
increments.
In average measurement mode, the average of two readings
and or continuous averaging in f/stop and foot-candle can
be made. The Photospot accessory is a precision optical
accessory that converts the Professional IV-A into a high-sensitivity
one-degree spotmeter
