Movie-Intercom, based in Berlin, Germany,  is a relatively young company involved in electronic special effects lighting products for the cine and television production industries. Many cine and television production companies in Europe have been using software driven MiC products during the past few years and are extremely satisfied with the results. Recently launched LFXHub in the USA already has some rave reviews and comments from the industry professionals about MiC products. The LFXHub is not just a 'flicker-box', it is a more a complete and realistic lighting effects controller with a 'Made in Germany' stamp

LFXHub

LFXHub is software driven digital lighting controller that creates a wide variety of realistic lighting effects for TV and Cine production. Ambient and direct light effects created by, say, flames of a campfire, flicker of a candle, flicker cast by a television set a movie theatre projector on its audience, neon signs, fireworks display and many more can be reproduced true-to-life using conventional film or studio lighting units.

The type of light source that works directly with the LFXHub are studio tungsten lighting, standard house bulbs, fluorescent fixtures like Kino Flo. To use HMI fixtures, an analog or DMX dimmer packs and dimmer shutters would be required. The MiC's DMX-Out module allows for multi-channel DMX 512 protocol technology to be employed and makes it easy to generate extraordinary three-dimensional lighting effects on a movie set or a television stage.

Used in conjunction with Licht Technik's "DarkVader" shutter and the available DMX trigger module, a full-blown lightning of a tropical thunderstorm can be reproduced with stunning reality. High power movie set lighting unit (4k to 12k) would be needed to create the lightning effects over larger areas. Also, any number of lighting units fitted with shutters can be cascaded to create the lightning strike effect over very large areas using the software of just one LFXHub controller. In nature, the illumination created by a lightning is at random in frequency, varies in intensity, light output, beam pattern, etc. It is now possible to recreate the same effect on the movie set using studio lighting, the LFXHub.

LightingSensor

The LightingSensor is an optical light detection unit that uses a hand-controlled switch that senses and synchronizes studio or set lighting according to real-life needs. It is capable of sensing a light source from up to 12 meters at variable angles of sensor pattern and duplicating it thru an ordinary light bulb or a studio light. The trigger level of light sensitivity is adjustable to meet the desired effect. An LFXHub has to be used as the main controller.

A typical scenario on the set or location: An actor turns on a ceiling lamp using a switch on the wall. The LightingSensor optically recognizes that the ceiling lamp has been switched on and activates the set or studio lighting in total sync. Similarly, when the actor turns off wall switch, the LightingSensor switches off the studio lighting - all that without any direct wiring connections between the ceiling light circuit and the studio lighting.

PowerSensor

The PowerSensor automatically synchronizes film lighting by sensing the electrical current sensor of a light switch on the set. It is similar to LightingSensor, except that the detection and synchronisation is done via electrical input and not an optical sensor. A maximum load of 1100 watts at the detection input can be handled. Once again, control and operation is via LFXHub and its lighting effects software program.
